Parks & Recreation

What We Do

West Sacramento Parks & Recreation consists of four separate functions: a Parks Division, Recreation Division, Early Learning Services, and our Tree Program. The Parks Department provides recreation and leisure opportunities with its park facilities and recreation programming. These programs are designed to help local residents improve their overall health and quality of life.

Are you civic-minded? Interested in volunteering for the greater community? Keeping a pulse on efforts within the City? The City of West Sacramento has vacancies within the Parks, Recreation & Intergenerational Services Commission and the Arts, Culture & Historic Preservation Commission.

What does the Commission do?
The Commission provides recommendations to the City Council on matters within the Commission's scope of duties and assignments from the City Council or City Manager.

What does that look like?
The Commission meets in the Council Chambers at City Hall for meetings bi-monthly. These meetings are broadcast and open to the public. During these meetings, Commissioners may observe presentations about projects conducted within the scope of the City’s responsibilities.

What’s the time commitment?
Several hours every other month with optional volunteer opportunities related to the commission area. For example: The Arts, Culture, and Historic Preservation Commissioners have been invited to be judges for arts contests during Parks & Recreation events.

Youth opportunity! We are searching for a West Sacramento resident, age 18 or younger, to fill the one youth member seat on the Parks, Recreation & Intergenerational Services Commission. This is a great opportunity for a community-centric youth interested in learning about local government and working on a committee.

Interested? Apply online by December 31, 2024.
